04/03/2010 Cortina winter Polo 2010: once more a great success The Cortina Winter Polo Audi Gold Cup? Wonderful! This was the common opinion, repeated over and over again by spectators, sponsors, supporters and professionals, all unanimous in approving this fantastic event.
Time passes quickly, yet … maturity seems favour the Cortina snow tournament, which is held each year in late February on the frozen Lake Misurina, one of the most celebrated resorts in Auronzo di Cadore region. Located at 1800 m, Lake Misurina is surrounded by the breathtaking scenary of Dolomite “monuments” like Mount Sorapis and Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
This year’s tournament was the twenty first. The story of the tournament dates back to 1989, when the first was held on Lake Landro and was so successful that the second tournament was listed among the world top venues of the World Polo Tour.
The public, extreme sport, athletic performances blended with plenty of glamour both in the Polo Village filled with guests and on the frozen lake shore crowded with spectators. Five polo tems - Audi, Hotel de la Poste, Julius Baer, U.S. POLO ASSN. and Ruinart – have been the leading characters of a spectacular tournament won by the team who defended the colours of Hotel de la Poste.
“Weather has certainly not been favourable this year” – commented Claudio Giorgiutti, President of the Organizing Committee – but our organizing experience and commitment to create an event where the attention is mainly devoted to knights and ponies, the great protagonists, have enabled us to overcome all the problems and inconveniences.
The wonderful sunny weather of the final day brought the smile back to everyone”. Satisfied and highly motivated the President of the Polo Gold Cup Circuit, Maurizio Zuliani, said “Cortina Winter Polo is a must in Cortina’s winter calendar and represents the opening event of our Circuit. We have debuted with a flourish: Cortina Winter polo is the right launching pad to introduce the subsequent venues, namely Villa a Sesta in the Chianti region and Costa Smeralda, in Sardinia. The many compliments we have received and the satisfaction of our sponsors who have also participated in the event are the best reward for the good work of our team!”
